So, let me start telling you a little bit about my self. I am Emad A AlSubhi. I was born in Jeddah on Friday, 18/9/1982. I have 2 brothers and 4 sisters. My father is a school teacher. He has been teaching math and science for more than 25 years. I live in a town called Khulais. It is about 12 km north-east of Jeddah (one of the main ports in Saudi Arabia). It is a quiet place. All the members of my family live in different houses that are not too far from each other. I have many friends there. I always liked to sit in my home to read stories. I was not interested in playing football like the other guys. So, I did not engage in the football matches that all the other boys were fascinated about. That doesnt mean that I dont have some things in common with my friends. I do have some. In fact, I have many common things with one of the best friends Ive ever had: Nawaf Al-Sati.
I have known Nawaf since my 2nd grade in the intermediate school. I still remember the first time I met him. He was reading a physics book. Suddenly, we had the following conversation: I asked him, "Do you know at what speed light travels?" He said, "I think it is three hundred million meters per second, right?" I said, "Right, Do you think that a body with a certain mass can travel at such a high speed?" He pondered for a while and then said, "No, I dont think that a body can travel at such an extremely high speed. It is a very incredible speed. I dont think so." There was no point to this conversation. I dont know what made me speak to him. Anyway, after this conversation, we became best friends. He lives in another town that is about 5 km from my town. He always visits me and I always visit him at his home. He likes reading very much especially history books. To be honest, I consider myself very lucky that I know a person like him. I applied for a scholarship in a company called Saudi Aramco last year (2000). It is one of the biggest oil companies in the world. I got a scholarship from that company to study in the U.S. Now, I am here in Virginia Tech. It is one of the coolest places on Earth. I have a lot of friends here from very different countries
